Deb's Shift Work Problems

by Deb
(Northern Michigan)

My weight problem is this:

The timing of when I eat.

My husband and I were living a long way from our home, and had to commute for about 2 years.

At that time, we both got out of work at 7 p.m. So, we would get home around 9 - 9:30 p.m., and then ate dinner with our two boys. Well, of course, we were going to bed shortly after dinner every night, and in those 2 years, I gained 2 pant sizes!

We have since moved closer to work for both of us, but now, my work shift has changed...and I get up at 4 a.m. and work until about 1 or 2 p.m. So, even though I have more time to exercise, I'm so tired by the time I get home that it's the last thing I want to do!

Also, my husband still works until 7 p.m., so dinner is late and then I'm the one going to bed again shortly after dinner!

I've stopped eating dinner with my husband and kids, but the temptation is unbelievable! There they sit with a full, delicious dinner, and here I sit trying to carry on conversations with them from the living room!

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get more motivated to exercise after work, or any advice on what to do at dinner time?

Thank you so much!
Deb
